Garfield Heights man becomes miracle patient

Garfield Heights man survives aneurysm and back on his feet after months of rehabilitation Garfield Heights man survives aneurysm and back on his feet after months of rehabilitation
CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO/CBS) -

A Garfield Heights man was saved by one person being at the right place, at the right time.

Jim Dandrew loves the time he spends at home with his wife and kids.  It's hard to believe these are moments that were almost gone forever after one day in January - close to two years ago now.

Jim was working his delivery truck job when something terrible happened.

"I was at a school out in Middlefield, and the kids were going for a walk with their teacher out in the school yard, and they past the side of the truck I was at, and they saw me laying on the ground," Dandrew tells 19 Action News reporter Denise Zarrella

A school employee brought Dandrew back to life with a defibrillator.  Turns out, he had an aneurysm that burst and nearly took his life.

"They said I was complaining of a bad headache that day, but I can't remember.  I just fell to the ground.  I had no idea how it happened.  They said something burst in the back of my head."

Dandrew had life saving surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, and after months of rehabilitation he's back on his feet, back at work and so thankful that he beat the odds.

Dandrew says he's a lucky man, "All together they said I died three times."

Most people who suffer an aneurysm are not so lucky.  Dandrew and his wife, Karen say they feel like they got a second chance at their life together.

"I love Jim a lot.  I worry about him.  I keep on him," Karen said.

"I'm very lucky.  I'm very fortunate to be alive with all the prayers I had from people, friends and family.  It's a blessing what happened to me."
