This stay of unusually warm October weather has a countdown to cool. Highs will stay in the 70s and even reach to just shy of record 80s on Saturday before it all comes to a close. The end of the warmth begins late Sunday evening as showers sweep across the Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. This late weekend system will be just the start to a cooler pattern next week; that will bring our coolest temperatures of the season so far.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

It's looking as if neither the Democratic Party nor the Republican Party will be endorsing a candidate in the upcoming Toledo mayoral election.

Mayor Mike Bell has already turned down the endorsement of the Lucas County Republican Party. Tuesday night, the party's executive committee decided not to endorse Bell's challenger, Councilman Mike Collins.

Collins says he's running as an independent candidate, but would welcome any support if it's offered. He already has endorsements from the United Auto Workers, the AFLCIO, the Police Patrolman's Union, and the Firefighter's Local 92. He's hoping soon to receive support from the Teamsters and the Building Trades Union.

Should the Democratic Party stay on the sidelines in the mayoral race, Collins believes that wouldn't be an obstacle in his quest to become mayor.

"I welcome that support, but I'm not going to be a divisive person into their structure. I have more respect for the process," he said. "I fully intend serving as mayor to be a mayor of all parties, of all peoples."

Mayor Bell says he was expecting Collins to receive the union endorsements, but he's focusing on his message of dealing with the city's financial troubles without laying off police and firefighters.
