German tradition and poker takes over the Tri-State

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

It's a huge weekend here in Cincinnati whether you are a Bengals fan, poker player, beer drinker or just looking for a bratwurst. The Tri-State offers a little something for everyone this weekend.

Three big events going on in town this weekend including the World Series of Poker at the Casino, the Bengals-Packers match-up and of course Cincinnati's world famous Oktoberfest celebration.

Oktoberfest rolled out the fun this weekend with authentic German music, food, beer and tens of thousands of people.

To help kick off today's festivities, Star Trek's George Takei led the Fountain Square crowd in the Chicken Dance.

Takei told the crowd of thousands, "the only thing I can say about this crowd is....oh my."

"Oh my" is the correct term for more than a few Green Bay Packers fans in the crowd.

Nancy Jones, a Packers fan, says she loves the Queen City.

"You guys are awesome. I would come down here every year to see a game," said Jones. "There have been so many people I've met that are wishing us well, not to win, but wishing us well. It's been awesome."

Jeff Vonderheide was born in Cincinnati and says there's nothing like Oktoberfest in the Queen City.

"It's huge. It's my birthday weekend so we come here for Oktoberfest every year," Vonderheide boasts. "Tomorrow I'm taking two of my sons to the Bengals game. It's fantastic for the city."

The economic impact for the city is in the millions, including profits that will be generated from the World Series of Poker at the Horseshoe Casino.

The Horseshoe Casino's Poker Room Manger, Jason Newsom says it is the first World Series of Poker circuit event held in Ohio.

"Having it in Cincinnati is a true honor," said Newsom. "In conjunction with everything else that's going on this weekend it's just another thing that highlights how great Cincinnati is."

The World Series of Poker runs through the end of the month featuring at least 200 players from around the country. The winner stands to make close to $750,000.

After double overtime, the Toledo Walleye came out on top and beat the Indy 3-2 Thursday night for a sweep in the series. Even though the fish had a 3-0 lead in the first round playoff series, the toughest thing to do in hockey is to beat a desperate team on their home ice.  Halfway through a second overtime Kyle Bonis sets up Christian Hillbrich to score the game winning goal.  The Walleye now advances to the second round.
