Uptown parking spaces converted into 'parks' for annual event

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The UpTown Association hosted its third annual park(ing) day event, where more than two dozen parking spaces in the UpTown district were converted into temporary parks for the day.

It's all part of a global effort to promote better uses of urban spaces and for people to ‘think green'.

During the event parking spaces were used for music, food stands, camping, arts activities and other activities.

Julie Champa, head of the UpTown Association, says besides the event encouraging people to think about the environment, it's also a chance for people to visit the neighborhood and discover the changes taking place, changes being driven by small business and the arts.

"We're trying to promote taking concrete spaces and turning them into green space and promote that whole green concept, and on top of that it's a really good opportunity for UpTown to bring people into the district who may not understand or know what's going on around here," said Ms. Champa.
