Bomb squad safely destroys 2 pipe bombs near Monclova Twp. home

A bomb squad had to destroy two pipe bombs found in the front yard of a Monclova Township home Friday. No one was hurt in the incident.

MONCLOVA TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) - A bomb squad had to destroy two pipe bombs found in the front yard of a Monclova Township home Friday. No one was hurt in the incident.

The Sheriff's Office says they received a call to the home in the 5100 block of Lose Road Friday morning. When deputies arrived, they found a suspicious package and called the bomb squad.

Sgt. Joseph Gorney says two pipe bombs were found and destroyed safely at the scene by the bomb squad. Officials would not say what the two bombs were made of, but they did confirm the bombs were never live.

Gorney says a person who lives in the home is being harassed by an unknown person or group of people. He also says someone placed fliers for a Klu Klux Klan rally Saturday all over the home in a previous incident. The homeowner is not affiliated with the Klu Klux Klan, according to police.

"Somebody went and put fliers around saying there is going to be a KKK rally here. Actually, the rally is supposed to be tomorrow. This guy has nothing to do with the KKK," said Gorney.

Sgt. Gorney says the scene has been cleared. The Sheriff's Department is investigating the case and is asking for any helpful tips from the public.

Monclova Elementary School is located about 2 miles from the scene. The school was never on lockdown, but sent an alert to parents letting them know about the situation. School officials kept students indoors for recess, but say children were never in danger.
