Maumee hospital renovation improves patient comfort

MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

St. Luke's Hospital is working to improve their emergency services with a $5 million project that will add new private patient care rooms and faster service.

The renovation project will expand the department and enhance patient care.

Phase two is currently underway, and the entire ER lobby is under construction. The renovated waiting area will have a fireplace, two plasma TVs and a play area for kids. Organizers say the project will provide a calmer environment for visitors as they wait in the ER.

"We want to make sure they have the best care available when they come here," said Doug Deacon, a hospital representative. "We just want to make them comfortable. This is going to be a great setting for them as they prepare to go into the ER."

In addition to the lobby, 31 patient treatment rooms and 24 newly-renovated, private rooms will be added. Nine of the new rooms opened last month.

The funding for the project came when St. Luke's partnered with ProMedica. The final phase is expected to be complete in December.
