Most people are incredibly fearful when cancer becomes a part of their lives.

Josh Huffman of Findlay, Ohio was no exception when his wife Laura was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 31.

"Laura was diagnosed three years ago. It was a real shock," Josh said. "She went through mastectomy, radiation, chemotherapy and reconstruction."

To help fight the fear, Josh and Laura turned to their closest friends for support, including Neal Boes and Troy Farthing, both men whose families have been affected by cancer.

"My mom was diagnosed with cancer about eight years ago," explained Farthing.

"I currently have an aunt that's going through treatment," added Boes.

After Laura's seven surgeries, the Huffman family says the reality of breast cancer really set in.

"This has been a platform we've used to let people know that they need to go get those mammograms," Josh said.

In an effort to support Laura, Neal and Troy's wives both went to get mammograms – the thought had never really surfaced for them until Laura's diagnosis.

In addition to raising awareness, Josh has rallied 19 people to sign up for Findlay's first Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, as part of the Charles Construction team.

"We've raised $1,400 so far – I keep increasing the goal," said Josh.

While the men have done very little to train for the 5k race, they're confident their wives will outrun them.

"I think the ladies are going to kick our butts this year," said Troy.

Josh is especially excited to share the experience with his wife after conquering cancer.

"I'm in awe of what she's done," he said. "She wants to give back by helping others, that's why we're excited it's coming to Findlay."
