New trash pickup for Monclova Township

MONCLOVA TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Residents in Monclova Township are getting rid of their trash in a whole new way, all because the township has signed a new contract with its waste provider.

For the past 25 years, residents in Monclova Township have had only one way to get rid of their trash. On Wednesday, a new way for residents to throw out their trash went into effect; the township has switched to strictly using blue containers.

"Instead of the driver having to pull up and pick the bags up, they will use these carts with an automated arm on the truck," said Monclova Township Administrator Harold Grim.

The new trash collection method is being provided by Republic Services, who has been a provider for the township for decades.

This is a new venture Grim says is worth taking.

"It saves them money. It cut down on their cost, and it's quicker," said Grim.

However, there have been some concerns about the new method.

"People have been saying they really don't have room for a big 96-gallon container in their garage and they don't want to leave it outside," said Grim.

Grim says the township has to adapt with the changing times, and these new totters are beneficial.

"With these, there's a lot less chance of trash being blown around," explained Grim.

The trash service is funded through the township's general fund. The new contract with Republic Services is supplying everyone in the township with a container that will last for the next five years.
