Train spills 2,500 gallons of fuel in Napoleon

NAPOLEON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

About 2,500 gallons of fuel spilled out of a train in Napoleon Tuesday. It happened at the intersection of Railroad Street and North Perry Street after officials say part of the railroad track came up and punctured the fuel tank.

Crews dug a pit and were able to contain the spill. Firefighters put foam over it to prevent a fire. Emergency Management Director Tracy Busch says they will remove the fuel and refill the pit.

"After they put it in containers they will do a back fill with all clean soil," said Busch. "So they dig down until there's no more contamination."

Officials also checked the sanitary and runoff sewers to make sure they were not contaminated as well.
