LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger is on the list of "Who to watch in Week 4" in the SEC, but so is the quarterback for the opponent the Tigers will face Saturday.
According to a report by Brian Tynes, the much-maligned Mettenberger has quietly been having a stellar year. Mettenberger has thrown for 797 yards and nine touchdowns with no interceptions and is drawing mentions in the Heisman Trophy discussion.
He is currently 21st in the nation in passing yards and second in the SEC, behind only Johnny Manziel. He's first in the conference and third nationally in passing efficiency with a 205.3 rating and tied for sixth in the country in passing touchdowns.
LSU is 3-0 on the season, but the best team the Tigers have faced is TCU, which is now 1-2 and out of the top 25. LSU faces Auburn in Death Valley on Saturday. It will be the first SEC opponent for LSU.
According to Tynes, Auburn's defense is not the best Mettenberger and LSU's offence will face, but it will be a nice tune-up for Georgia.
On the other side, Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall also has his Tigers at 3-0. They are also 1-0 in the SEC. Marshall has thrown for 585 yards and four touchdowns in three games, but this will be Auburn's first away game of the season.
Against Mississippi State last week, Marshall threw for 339 yards and two touchdowns, but he also had two interceptions. He guided the Tigers on a game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter, capped by an 11-yard touchdown pass.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. and the game will air on ESPN.
