Bar 145, Toledo firefighters raise money for muscular dystrophy

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Toledo firefighters were called to Bar 145 Thursday – but not for a fire. They were taking part in a charity run for the Toledo Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

"We just want to do something to give back to the community, and do something…for the people who have supported us so well as a business," said Jake Guthrie, director of operations for Bar 145.

Thanks to a Toledo firefighter also working at Bar 145, the Break for Bourbon 5K was created. The restaurant and Local 92 firefighters' union teamed up for the race.

"Our union, the IAFF, International Association of Fire Fighters, is actually the largest donor to muscular dystrophy, and we're very proud of that fact and we work very hard at it," said Jeff Koenigseker, chairman of the Local 92. "One hundred percent of what we bring goes straight back out to the community and MDA is actually one of our largest charities that we support."

This was the first time Bar 145 and the Local 92 teamed up for a fundraiser, but they both hope it is the start of a long relationship raising money for MDA.

"We hope to do this every year," Koenigseker said. "We are so grateful to Bar 145 and Dave's Running Shop, and we look forward to a long relationship with them."
