(Toledo News Now) -

This week's primary election is being characterized by some as a surprise.

It looks a lot more like a slap in the collective faces of the traditional political power brokers. The two candidates still standing are Independents. Neither was endorsed by the Democratic Party.

The unions galvanized behind someone else, and The Blade-endorsed candidate fretted, fizzled and faded.

The city council results also supported Independents over party regulars. There must be some vigorous head-scratching taking place as the voting is analyzed.  The political sages are offering up the requisite ‘coulda, shoulda, woulda,'  but that won't change a thing.

There is a lot of talk about what went wrong. The answer: Nothing.
