High-profile examiner brought on Limberios case

SANDUSKY COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

After months of waiting, Attorney General Mike DeWine is now involved in the case of Castalia teen Jake Limberios' death.

The 19-year-old died in March of 2012 by a fatal gunshot wound to the head. It was ruled an accidental suicide, but the family has been fighting that ruling ever since.

It's been 18 months since Limberios' death, and DeWine has brought a high-profile pathologist to the case. DeWine has hired Dr. Michael Baden, the former medical examiner of New York City. Baden gave testimony in the OJ Simpson and Phil Spector murder trials.

But DeWine says Baden's expertise goes beyond studying autopsy information.

"He will frankly look at statements that have been made by witnesses, and really provide us with expert analysis," DeWine said.

DeWine says this move shows his commitment to closing the case.

"We're going to do it right," he said. "We're going to take our time. We're going to laboriously go through all the evidence, and then we're going to make a determination and call it the best that we can."

The Limberios family is happy with the progress in the case, and says they are confident they should get some closure soon.

"I believe him when he says that," said Mike Limberios, Jake's father. "I think all the footwork that they're doing - I really believe that it will come down to the science. The science doesn't lie."

The investigation has not been given a timeframe for completion.
