TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - The city of Toledo is set to receive $1.9 million from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. EPA, to continue to be the local agent for air permitting and air quality monitoring.
The city will be matching those grants with $156,000 from the general fund. That pays for staff and equipment to do air permitting and monitoring services.
Toledo Environmental Services Commissioner Tim Murphy says it's all about keeping track of local air quality.
"We permit approximately 400 facilities in Lucas County and parts of Wood County. These are facilities from gas stations and dry cleaners, all the way up to the refineries, largest manufacturing plants we have in the community."
Murphy says the mild summer weather has helped keep Toledo in ozone attainment with the EPA.
