PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) - The Perrysburg Heights Community Center is now under investigation after complaints were filed to the Attorney General's Office, claiming the center's president and treasurer were misusing the funds.

Five complaints were filed claiming misuse of funds, so last week, the center received a letter from the Attorney General's Office, requesting information regarding the operations of the center.

"We asked them about the information that they're looking for, and we got about 40 percent of that information already gathered," said President Jesse Spiers.

One of the complaints filed read:

"This joke of an organization is in direct violation of its own charter and bylaws and is misusing financial grants and donations for their own profit. The president of the non-profit organization, who also currently is the owner of Toledo Sport and Social Club, rents the facilities out for his own business's profit."

Spiers denies misusing any funds, and he says being owner of the Toledo Sports and Social Club does not conflict with him being president of the center.

"It's been proven through our records that Toledo Sports and Social Club has paid full rental rates and, in some cases, more than other renters of the facility," he said.

The center must submit all the necessary information to the Attorney General's Office by the beginning of October. Spiers says he's looking at it as a chance to show that he is running a clean ship.
