Food pantry needs donations for bigger space

WOOD COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A Wood County food pantry is in desperate need of help and space.

One of the biggest problems at the BG Christian Food Pantry is the lack of space. The entire building is no bigger than a 1-bedroom apartment, and only two people can shop at a time.

The pantry serves nearly 300 people a month. Last month, 108 of them were children. Every day, people line up, waiting hours sometimes to get their chance to shop for groceries they need.

In addition to the small space, three steps in the building present a big challenge for disabled visitors.

"Handicap people have a real hard time, and we hate it," said Shirley Woessner, director of the pantry. "We're looking for another place. We'd like to get something on one floor."

Woessner says they've lasted 10 years in the cramped basement, but she's not sure how much longer it will fit their growing needs.

For information on how to donate, call Woessner at 419-353-5174.
