Restaurant Ratings Report: Violations reach double digits

(Toledo News Now) -

Double digit violations are front and center in this week's Restaurant Ratings Report, but there is some good news.

One of the restaurants in the clear by inspectors is El Camino, located on Sylvania Avenue. It received a visit by the Lucas County Health Department Aug. 25. No violations were found.

El Nuevo on Central Avenue is already reversing its four violations. On Aug. 26, an inspector noted an employee handling diced tomatoes with his or her bare hands. It was corrected on the spot.

Cleaning is also underway to remove food residue found on the wall behind a steam table.

Chuck E Cheese's on Monroe is trying to fix five violations. On Aug. 27, the dish machine was not dispensing chlorine during a final rinse, an employee's cell phone was resting on a cake, an employee's purse and sweatshirt were being stored on a prep table with food, and the sprinkler system was dripping water in the walk-in cooler.

Seventeen violations were reported at China King on Telegraph Road Aug. 22. Those included food stored on the floor, no date-marking, build up and flies in drains, and general cleaning needed under and behind equipment. Inspectors even found a mattress in a small room off the kitchen.

White Tower on Sylvania Avenue had the most violations for the week. Its 23 violations included food debris on torn, damaged ceiling tiles, the dish machine in operation with no sanitizer, grease build up on the main grill, and slime deposits on the ice machine shield.

Inspectors are asking staff to clean equipment inside and out, and thoroughly clean walls, floors and ceilings.

The Bavarian Sports Club on Lagrange Street, however, was violation-free.
