MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Teachers at Maumee City Schools have been without a contract for eight months. Now, they may be one step closer to their goal.

After months of negotiations that didn't lead to a resolution, a fact finder was brought in to report on negotiations.

With one member absent Monday, the school board voted 4-0 to approve the report, which led to a round of applause in the crowded meeting.

"I think it's a huge relief for everyone," said Superintendent Greg Smith. "This is a great school district. I believe the board, the teachers, the operational staff, everyone cares deeply about the children and that's what it's all about."

Maumee Education Association President Stacey Miller says she was very pleased the report was approved by the board, and now it's up to teachers to vote it up or down.

"If they accept it, then that recommendation would become the new contract," Smith said. "If they don't, we would be happy to sit back down with them and continue talking."

Details of the report won't be released until both sides have voted.
