13-year-old arrested for hate crime attack outside Cocktails bar in Cleveland

DOWNTOWN CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Cleveland Police are currently investigating an assault/hate incident in which a 13-year-old male has been arrested.

The attack happened Friday, September 6, at approximately 8 p.m. at the Cocktails Bar located at 9208 Detroit Avenue.

Officers responded to the bar for juveniles throwing rocks at and disturbing patrons and employees of the bar.

The preliminary investigation reveals that a group of juvenile males were outside of the bar near the patio area where the victim was serving drinks to patrons.

According to police, the juveniles began throwing rocks at the victim and other patrons, while yelling "You faggots better get out of here."

Police say that patrons chased the juveniles at that time but the group returned later, this time with sticks and a broom.

One juvenile male threatened the victim again and told him he would "beat his faggot (bleep)" with the stick.  After the group left the area, the victim called police and officers were able to locate the juvenile at Detroit and W. 87th St. based on the description provided by the victim.

After the juvenile was positively identified by the victim, he was placed under arrest for assault/hate incident and transported to the Central Prison Unit where he was booked.

This matter is still under investigation.
