Rossford residents won’t get to vote on TARTA

ROSSFORD, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Thefuture of TARTA in Rossford is still unclear, but one thing is for sure: Voterswill not be able to voice their opinion on the issue this November.

"I'mdisappointed," said Pat Carson, a Rossford resident. "I signed the petition toput it up for a vote."

Nearly400 people signed the petition to get the TARTA issue on the November ballot, but according to the board of elections, the petition was not filed andcertified in time to be valid.

Someresidents say keeping TARTA services in Rossford is a waste of money.

"It'snot a deal for Rossford, by any means," said Councilman Chuck Duricek. "Webelieve the citizens of Rossford could be better served by a private company."

Duriceksays Rossford could use a service similar to Perrysburg's, because not enoughpeople use TARTA.

"It'snot utilized by anyone in Rossford," he said. "We have a lot of people thattransit through Rossford."

Noteveryone agrees with him.

"Ifthey're coming into town to work, they're putting money into the city, so Ithink they would be wrong if they tried to get rid of [TARTA]," said Jim Mazur.

Thelegislation allowing communities to opt out of TARTA expires this December. Itis currently unknown if people will be able to vote on the issue next year.
