FINDLAY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A small group of officials from Findlay and Hancock County are heading to Japan, hoping to bring back jobs.

Findlay Mayor Lydia Mihalik will be joined by a contingency of representatives from the city and county. They will be in Japan for nine days.

"The way we look at it is, it's just all about building that relationship and continuing to keep it strong," Mihalik said. "They do offer a ton of jobs, thousands of jobs here to our residents that live in the Findlay and Hancock County area, and also in the surrounding counties."

The Findlay-Japan partnership has been going on for over 20 years. As a result, the Tall Timbers Development was established and companies from Japan, like GSW Manufacturing, do business in Findlay.

Mihalik got a $4,000 purchase order for the trip, which covers flights and hotels. To her, it's worth it if they bring thousands of jobs to the area.

"We do what we can to try and help supplement this trip. It's an important trip," she said. "My presence really, with these companies, is extremely strong and it helps them realize that we are truly very serious about their investment here, and we want them to feel comfortable to actually invest more dollars well into the future."

The group leaves on Sept. 6 and returns Sept. 15.
