Enrollment up at Lenawee County colleges

ADRIAN, MI (Toledo News Now) -

Enrollment is up at the two major colleges in Lenawee County. Both Sienna Heights University and Adrian College say they have more students on campus this year.

"It certainly has infused the campus with real energy," said Trudy Mohre, director of undergraduate admissions at Sienna Heights. "We're really feeling that momentum right now."

There are more first-year students enrolled at Sienna Heights than ever before. At Adrian College, the incoming class has more than 500 students for the seventh year in a row.

Sienna Heights officials say word-of-mouth and a more focused marketing technique could be the reason for their increased enrollment. They are working to target students from Detroit and Toledo areas, especially students from Catholic high schools.

"We're seeing a larger feed from that particular group," said Mohre.

Students say they're excited about the growth and what it means for them.

"It helps you grow as a person, not seeing the same people every day, and you learn to adapt to an environment like that," said Willis Sowle.

Leaders at Adrian College say they believe their growth is due to an improved website, programs and activities.
