A man is recovering from a vicious attack, and he says he was jumped because he is gay.

Jared Fox tells 19 Action News he was attacked by a large group as he walked to a club at West 92nd and Detroit in Cleveland.

"What hurt me the most was when they said do you want to die," stated Jared Fox.

It happened Saturday evening around Midnight. Fox says he was stomped and kicked and he ended up with an eye swollen shut, a ruptured eardrum and other injuries.

Fox says the crowd specifically shouted slurs at him since the bar he was headed to is known for attracting gays.

"They just kept hitting and hitting and hitting," said Fox.

"What were they saying? You said they were saying some things," said reporter Ed Gallek.

"Faggot. Queer. That kind of thing," added Fox.

Folks at the bar are mad at police saying they'd called three times shortly before the attack because of this.  the mob had been gathering around the bar-=-even trying to get in--obviously not customers.

Cleveland First District Detectives are investigating.

After double overtime, the Toledo Walleye came out on top and beat the Indy 3-2 Thursday night for a sweep in the series. Even though the fish had a 3-0 lead in the first round playoff series, the toughest thing to do in hockey is to beat a desperate team on their home ice.  Halfway through a second overtime Kyle Bonis sets up Christian Hillbrich to score the game winning goal.  The Walleye now advances to the second round.
