Potato chip museum opening in Tiffin

The Ballreich's potato chip factory has been a staple in Tiffin since 1920. Visitors to the factory will soon have a new attraction to check out.

TIFFIN, OH (Toledo News Now) - The Ballreich's potato chip factory has been a staple in Tiffin since 1920. Visitors to the factory will soon have a new attraction to check out.

Later this year, the company will be transforming the home where it began into a retail store and museum called Granny Ballreich's.

The factory store is currently tucked away into a small room. The new facility will expand the amount of product visitors can buy, and each item will feature a display on the product's history.

"I think everyone loves a story," said Haley Thomas, director of sales and marketing. "They want to know where the product came from and when they hear the story, it means something more to them. That's what we're trying to do now, just with our own brand, because we did start almost 100 years ago in a dirt floor garage."

The museum will also feature an Ohio Proud line, showcasing other popular products made in northwest Ohio.

Granny Ballreich's should be open by the holiday season.

The company is also releasing a new sweet potato chip into full distribution next week.
