Township residents concerned over safety of roundabout grass

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A roundabout in Springfield Township has some residents upset.

People who live near the roundabout say the tall grass is an eyesore, but township leaders say it's native grass and is used for safety.

The roundabout is at Nebraska Avenue and King Street. John Engelheart lives nearby and says not only is the tall grass an eyesore, but a safety issue because drivers can't see other cars around it. Others agree.

"I would like somebody to do something about it," Engelheart said.

Residents recently voiced their concerns at a township trustee meeting. That's when it was explained that the grass is used to screen motorists' views, forcing them to enter the roundabout more cautiously.

"It's not a horribly busy road, so I don't see why they would have problems with people slowing down," said Adam Morzinksi, a resident.

The grass in the roundabout's center island is maintained by the Oak Openings Region Conservancy.
