Unemployment rate up in Lenawee County

LENAWEE COUNTY, MI (Toledo News Now) -

Michigan unemployment numbers for July are out, and Lenawee County is seeing a spike.

The county currently has an unemployment rate of 10.5 percent. That's up from earlier this summer, but Lenawee County Economic Development Director Jim Vandoren says it won't be like this for long.

"We're going to start to see it reverse because we know there are a number of jobs being offered that have not been available in the past because of our automotive companies, because of new lines that they've added," Vandoren said.

He also says more people will start working education-related jobs as schools open again this fall, and agriculture jobs as farmers get ready for a second harvest.
