Sylvania Schools trains students with ALICE

SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Safety is a top priority for Sylvania Schools. They had their first of four ALICE training sessions Wednesday afternoon.

The schools are required by law to have fire and tornado drills, but the Sylvania district has ALICE drills, as well.

District leaders say they hope they don't ever have to use these skills, but believe it's key to be prepared for any situation.

Students are trained in three areas: Intelligent escape, enhanced lockdown procedures, and counter and swarm.

The district ensures that their staff is trained every year, as well.

"Education is our primary mission, but we have to keep people safe and keep safety at the forefront," said Superintendent Brad Rieger. "We're always focusing on keeping our kids safe; it's one of our district initiatives."

Each school will have four sessions of ALICE training, and there's a parent session each year, as well.
