New rehab center open in Sylvania

After being open for just two days, the new rehab center at the Franciscan Care Center in Sylvania already has a waiting list of people hoping to use the facility.

SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) - After being open for just two days, the new rehab center at the Franciscan Care Center in Sylvania already has a waiting list of people hoping to use the facility.

The brand new $6.5 million rehab center is bringing about 20 jobs to the area.

"The nursing field, the dietary field and the housekeeping field are all needed, and we're hiring for those positions right now," said Laurie Stewart, director of Marketing and Admissions.

After a market study, the Franciscan Care Center saw a need for a rehab facility, so they got to work.

"[We asked,] 'What does our community need? What are they looking for?'" Stewart said. "When they come in that door, we have these care conferences with them and we ask them, 'What are your expectations?' And then after a short period of time of them being here, we ask them again, 'Have we met your expectations?'"

The center has 25 bedroom suites for short-term inpatients. They will also take outpatients. They will help anyone age 55 and over, and all religious affiliations are welcome.

Stewart says they're excited to be in Sylvania and to help the local economy.

"As an organization, it's a great addition," she said. "Not only as a business, but for the community. People are seeing that we are trying to help the community…We're just growing and growing."
