Adrian officials taking steps to clean up neighborhoods

ADRIAN, MI (Toledo News Now) -

A major effort to clean up neighborhoods and keep property values from declining is underway in Adrian.

City officials say it's an increasing issue: Homes aren't being kept up. Whether its trash in the yard, overgrown grass, or peeling paint, officials say they've been getting more and more calls from residents who want to see their neighbors' homes cleaned up.

"Every day, you can't help but notice there are homes that have fallen into disrepair, and yards that aren't getting the attention they should," said resident Sara Bingham.

City employees are now out on the streets, looking for properties that aren't up to code. They're hoping to have a complete list of addresses by the end of the week, and that list will be sent to the Inspection Department.

Bingham says she's happy the city is stepping in.

"[It] certainly affects the property value of the surrounding homes, and absolutely affects the way that people feel when they're driving around the city," she said.

Property owners whose addresses are on the list will be given a warning and time to correct the issue before a citation is issued.
