Perrysburg Schools hire full-time fundraising director

PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Perrysburg Schools have a new full-time fundraising director, but the new position isn't sitting well with some parents.

The position could bring in thousands of dollars for the schools, but parents in the district say they are concerned with how much the new director's $77,000 salary is going to cost taxpayers.

"It is money that we have allocated for this purpose," said Superintendent Tom Hosler. "It was part of our budget, however, we drive our budget from taxpayers."

One taxpayer, Judith Glandville, says the salary "isn't too out of line." She says she doesn't want her granddaughter's education to solely rely on state funding.

"Any time we get state funding cuts, we need to find other ways to add value to our school system," she said. "If doing this is a method of doing that, then that's what we need to do."

Hosler says with dwindling state funds, a full-time fundraising position is needed.

"The way education is being funded is changing, and we owe it to our community to explore ways to make the change possible here," he said.

District officials are hoping a new, full-time employee dedicated to fundraising will bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars in the years to come.
