Investigation shows Lakota bus driver wasn't texting

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

A Lakota Bus driver who swerved off the road last week was not texting and driving according to Lakota officials.

Last week, several parents complained that the bus driver of bus #49, that services Van Gordon Elementary School, was texting and driving causing the bus to go off the side of the road. But a week-long investigation conducted by the Lakota School District and the Petermann Bus Company found no evidence that the bus driver was texting and driving. The investigation included looking at the driver's phone records.

According to Lakota's Chief Operations Officer Chris Passarge, the bus driver said in her statement that another bus traveling in the opposite direction was too close to center, forcing her to swerve off the road.

Passarge says the driver stated that no children complained of injuries or appeared shaken up from the incident, and did not feel it necessary to file a report.

The driver is still on paid administrative leave.

Passarge says the drivers certification was scheduled to expire at the end of the year. Peterman and the Lakota School district is having the bus driver go through a 3-5 day recertification process after the Labor Day holiday. If the driver passes, she'll be put back on the road on a different bus route.
