Local pastors fighting against human trafficking

(Toledo News Now) -

Toledo is well-known in the U.S. for being a human trafficking hotspot, but the capital of the illegal activity may be Moldova – located between Romania and the Ukraine.

Several pastors from Cedar Creek Church were there last week to learn more as they begin efforts to fight trafficking locally. They say the opportunity to go to Moldova fell into their lap after they were introduced to the leader of a transitional home for victims in Moldova.

After hearing stories and visiting the country where children and young adults are sold and traded on a daily basis, the pastors said enough is enough.

While they admit human trafficking in Moldova differs from here in Ohio, they say the victims are the same.

"I would say, as a church, we're in the learning stages right now. We're aware of the situation," said Executive Pastor Steve Hutmacher. "This particular weekend, we want to draw awareness to what's going on, not only across the world, but also right here in northwest Ohio. Hopefully…we can do something together."

All of the services at each Cedar Creek location will focus on the matter this Saturday and Sunday. Two groups from Moldova will be on hand, along with young girls who will share their firsthand experiences.
