Local business donates ATV to fire department

SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Sylvania Township Fire Department received a life-saving tool Thursday, and the best part was it was free!

Firehouse Subs on Monroe Street donated a Gator Moto electric all-terrain vehicle (ATV) to the department. The ATV is valued at more than $18,000.

Firefighters say they will use the ATV when they respond to disaster relief and off-road incidents.

"What this allows us to do is take our paramedics to the patient, and then bring the patient out, so that they can be transported to a hospital," said Mike Ramm, deputy chief of operations for the department. "It's just phenomenal."

The ATV was paid for by the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. The company raises funds in several ways, including recycling 5-gallon pickle buckets, which are sold to guests for $2.

"Firemen risk their lives every day for all of us," said Robert Rusgo, owner of Firehouse Subs. "It's nice to be able to give back to the community."

Firehouse Subs has donated more than $250,000 to hometown heroes in Ohio.
