Maumee School balances budget despite previous concerns

MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Money is always an issue for school districts but, the Maumee School district has some good news at least through the year 2015. They're excepted to maintain a balanced budget.

In a previously reported forecast done by District Treasurer Paul Brotzki, the district was expected to be in an $2.56 million deficit through the 2015 school year.

Now the updated 5 year forecast shows a $1.25 million cash reserve balance.

"We're not going to be doing anything new," said Brotzki. "It's not really a big win for us where we can have a bunch of new initiatives. We are currently continuing what we have going on."

There are several factors for the change. There has been a six percent increase in state funding and a continued reimbursement of the commercial activity tax which equates to $543,900.

After 2015 the district could possibly be back at square one.
