Time running out for Rossford to opt out of TARTA

ROSSFORD, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Timeis running out for Rossford to opt out of TARTA services.

Hundredsof signatures were collected by Citizen's Choice, a group of residents who wantto put the issue on the November ballot, and they claim they turned all theirpaperwork in on time.

Accordingto the Wood County Board of Elections, however, the filing deadline was August7, but signatures were not verified until August 12. Now it is up to the WoodCounty Prosecutor to determine if the issue can be placed on the ballot.

Ifthe issue doesn't make it on the ballot this November, it likely never will.The law allowing communities to opt out expires at the end of the year.

Residentswho depend on public transportation say they hope it never makes the ballot.

"Asan elderly person, it's ridiculous to take something so handy away fromsomebody," said Norman Falls.

Fallsrides his bike to run errands, but needs the bus service to take trips furtheraway.

Sofar, there's no word on if voters will see the issue this November.
