Open house encourages public to learn, donate to wildlife rehab

WHITEHOUSE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Alocal wildlife rehabilitation center needs help as the number of animals comingin – and the costs associated with caring for them – continues to increase.

Sofar, Nature's Nursery has taken in more than 2,000 animals just this year.

"Alot of animals that are coming in need a lot of extra medical care," saidDirector Laura Zitzelberger. "We seem to have a lot more expense this year thanwe have in the past."

Zitzelbergersays Nature's Nursery is funded through grants, fundraisers and donations. She'shoping the community will come together now to ramp up donations and allow theorganization to continue nurturing and returning animals to the wild, as wellas educating the public.

"Ifwe could increase our membership and know that we have a larger income…thatwould be absolutely amazing," she said.

Therewill be an open house on September 8 for visitors to meet some of the wildlifeand participate in a variety of activities. Click here for more information.

    Construction is now underway for one of the first medicinal marijuana facilities in the Gibsonburg area. The Standard Wellness Company was awarded one of Ohio's cultivation licenses for medicinal marijuana. Their location is in Gibsonburg, Ohio, as many local municipalities voted to keep facilities out, Gibsonburg wanted the industry.
