Lake hopes running game will open up the pass in 2013

MILLBURY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Mark Emans spent 22 years at Wauseon. After a few years off, he's back on the gridiron coaching the Lake Flyers. He's the third man to coach the Flyers in as many years.

"I think the kids here, the facilities here, the community; you know living right down the road when I was a kid at Eastwood. I always knew that Lake football was very, very exciting; very, very powerful and it was a great opportunity to get back here when the job came open I decided to get here," said Emans.

Lake was four and six in 2012, with an explosive offense led by Jared Rettig. Rettig is back for the 2013 campaign. The team thinks they have a ground game to complement that passing game this year.

"It certainly makes the reads a lot easier. They're mostly man now instead of just dropping back; cover five or cover two or whatever. Run the ball, we get a couple yards, then after that we can boot them – the ends crash in – [I] get on the outside. It lets me throw the ball," said Quarterback Jared Rettig.

Lake will kick off the season at home against Fremont St. Joseph at 7 p.m. on August 30.
