Officer finds, carries injured dog to safety after accident

A Pennsylvania police officer went the extra mile recently when a dog escaped the scene of a car accident.

Mya, a German Shepherd, got spooked when the car she was riding in got into an accident. The dog took off running away from the scene.

That is when officer Nick Ague heard a call that officers were looking for the dog.  Ague says he has a German Shepherd at home, and understands how terrible it would be to lose a pet. Ague rushed to the scene and eventually located the dog about 2 miles from the crash scene.

"The pads, the skin was just hanging off all four of her paws," said Ague.

So, Ague picked up the 75-pound animal and carried her back to her owner.

The story was posted to the department's Facebook page along with the above photo. To date, the post has received nearly 10,000 likes.

After the amazing social media response, the department has decided to add a K-9 unit. Officer Ague will be the dog's handler. The department says about $25,000 is needed to purchase and train the dog. Donations can be mailed to South Londonderry Township Police Department, P.O. Box 3, Campbelltown, PA 17010. The department asks that a memo of "K-9 Fund" be included with the donation.
