Bowling Green getting branded

BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Bowling Green business owners are looking for a way to get more foot traffic downtown. They are hoping branding the city will do the trick.

"Branding is just, really, a quick phrase to catch attention," said Councilperson Sandy Rowland.

A group of residents and business owners are trying to associate a name with the city.

"Getting people to be aware that Bowling Green is a thriving, growing community with a wonderful university, and that there is a reason to come here," said Ginny Stewart, owner of BG Hats and Apparel.

The hope is that by branding the city with a name and logo, people will put Bowling Green on their radar.

"We think that we're a wonderful place to visit on a day trip," Rowland said. "Come down and shop in our great little historic community, which is very safe and very clean."

"Spend a day here, spend a weekend here," Stewart said. "Have a wedding here, get your hair done, come to a spa."

The group start meeting with the hope of working together to help each other. They discuss issues and concerns, and work side by side to find ways to improve business.

A few months ago, they were successful in getting BGSU to create a shuttle stop in the downtown area. Now they're focused on a brand.

"We live with something for so long, we fail to identify what it is," said Rowland. "So if we brand our community, we can better explain what we are, who we are, and why you want to be a part of it."
