TIFFIN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

It's a rare sight: pink fire trucks. Tiffin firefighters are using them to raise money for a good cause.

The Pink Heals tour will make it's only stop in Ohio in Tiffin on August 22. From 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., two pink engines, one pink ladder truck, and a pink RV will be at the Local 322 fire department for an event that includes a cancer charity dinner and auction later that night.

"To have the public be able to come out and actually write their names on these trucks and write messages of hope or love to someone that they know or someone that they remember that has passed away from cancer – it's just a great thing," said Rob Chappell, president of the Local 322.

The department has been raising money for cancer research going on three years now. They started by selling pink T-shirts the first year. Last year they added a 5K.

All of the money raised from tour merchandise will stay with the fire department. Money from a dinner and 5K on September 29 will be split between a Seneca County cancer organization and the Stephanie Spielman Breast Cancer Fund.

The firefighters also raise awareness by wearing pink for all of October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

"It's funny, because the first couple days of the month, we all kind of look at each other wearing these pink shirts, and we take a little bit of flak here and there," said Chappell. "Some of the calls we go on, people poking some fun at us, but everyone knows it's for a good cause."
