Neighbors: West Toledo bar too noisy

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

People in a west Toledo neighborhood say one neighbor is a real ‘night-time nuisance.'

While the manager of Jesse James West, or the W bar on Laskey Road, says he's unaware of any complaints, people living along Amesbury Road say that bar and its customers are keeping them up at night, and they want it to stop.

Erika Swincicki says she and her fiancé are fed up with the noise at night, especially when their day starts when the partying is often still going on.

"Very, very loud music until like 3 o'clock in the morning," Swincicki said. "Sometimes the parking lot is very noisy with people out in their cars with their systems going, and fights."

Christina Sobecki says she moved into that neighborhood for peace and quiet, something she now says is the exception, rather than the norm.

"[It was a] very quiet neighborhood. Never had any issues, never woke up in the middle of the night," she said. "Now, all of a sudden, loud music, constantly, all night long, people screaming and yelling."

Toledo Police say so far this year, officers have made 12 crime reports from activity at that bar, including reports of disorderly conduct, assault and resisting arrest.

Swincicki says she didn't have any problems with other bars operating from that same location in the past.

"This just started happening within the last year with the new operation," she said. "Something needs to be done because there's school coming up and kids have to be up early for school. We can't have that going on."

TPD says the bar is on their radar screen, and off-duty officers do work in the parking lot.

Some Toledoans spoke out about their concerns with the Toledo Area Water Authority (TAWA). Urging the Mayor's Office and City Council to consider how they feel TAWA is currently proposed isn't acceptable. Nick Komives is the chair of the water quality and sustainability committee. He tells WTOL that right now... if the city council were to vote on the ordinance for the Toledo Area Water Authority ... he predicts it wouldn't pass, eight to four. Komive...
