TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Every vote counts, and with four weeks to go until the September 10 primary, one Toledo mayoral candidate is making sure people know it.

Early voting in Lucas County started August 6. Registered voters can cast their vote at the early voting center on Summit Street, Monday through Friday. A week into the push, only about 60 people have voted.

"It's important to vote early," said Anita Lopez, one of eight mayoral candidates. "So it's a great opportunity. It's a huge race for the City of Toledo."

Lopez just picked up an endorsement from Emily's List, the nation's largest resource for women in politics, the same day she held another rally in front of the early voting center.

"We really want citizens to take advantage of this great service," she said. "So we're looking forward to getting out more members, more citizens, and showing them that their vote truly does count."

Although early voting numbers have been low, there's still plenty of time to take advantage of the opportunity. The center is open from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. On Tuesday, they are open from 8:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.
