OREGON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Students in the Oregon City School district go back to class August 21, and many of them face a big change.

Fassett Middle School is one of two schools that will greet many new students this year. Fassett is now the junior high in Oregon, as part of the changes made by the school board last spring. The school will house seventh and eighth grade students.

Eisenhower Middle School has become Eisenhower Intermediate, where fifth and sixth grade students will attend.

The goal is to have all students in the same grades under one roof. They can get to know each other and reduce peer anxiety. Teachers will also have additional instruction time with students to improve test scores.

Superintendent Lonny Rivera says there may be some nervous students, but he says the changes will make the schools and community stronger.

"Everybody that's in that grade level, they can be there to meet and to share work and ideas," he said. "We can be very specific on what students need, and we can make sure that we deliver that to them."

Dr. Rivera says they're preparing families for the changes. There will be a registration day at Fassett on Tuesday, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., and on Wednesday at Eisenhower, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
