New Perrysburg living community nears completion

PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The second largest Franciscan living facility in the state is getting ready to open in Perrysburg.

Phase one of construction cost $40 million. When construction is finished, 500 people will call St. Clare Commons home in October. Everything is designed to make future residents feel at home, from pictures on the walls, to big beds, exercise equipment and kitchens.

The new facility is 135,000 square feet and will have 56 living apartments, 36 memory care studios for dementia and Alzheimer's patients, plus 60 skilled rehab and nursing suites.

Employees say the concept was to combine health care and hospitality.

"To allow people to live their life the way they would like to. It's not a medical model. It's more of a social model, so that they can enjoy life to the fullest in the way they're used to living," said executive director Shawn Litten.

Phase two of construction will be creating houses, apartments and villas in what is now a field.
