ROSSFORD, OH (Toledo News Now) -

State and local authorities are investigating after an overnight shooting at a local outdoors store.

The Rossford Police, along with agents from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, say several rounds of ammunition were fired into the west side of the Bass Pro Shops building along Interstate 75.

According to police, employees at the store noticed several windows were broken when they arrived to work Thursday morning, so they contacted police.

When they arrived on the scene, police temporarily closed both northbound and southbound lanes of I-75 through Rossford to search for shell casings.

"Right now, I think it was one weapon," said Rossford Police Chief Glenn Goss. "I'm not at liberty to talk about the caliber or anything until after the Bureau of Criminal Investigation conducts some crime lab analysis on any of the evidence recovered."

Police say no one was in the building at the time of the shooting, and no one was injured. They say this has caught many off guard, because the last time there was a shooting in Rossford was 1978.

"It's very rare for Rossford," the chief said. "We don't have a lot of firearms calls. We don't have shooting calls."

Officials are looking at the shattered windows, trying to determine exactly what happened.

"At this time, it does not appear that the shots were directed toward a person," Goss said. "There's no correlation with any gang information or anything like that."

Chief Goss wants to ensure Rossford residents that they are safe, and if they have any information that can help the investigation, they should call the police department at 419-666-5230.

TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - It's no secret that firefighters can get sick with cancer because of many of the things they must do on the job. Now, there's a national effort to help them. In January, Governor Kasich signed a state bill that allows firefighters diagnosed with certain cancers, to get more worker's compensation benefits or coverage. And today in Washington, a bipartisan bill was passed out of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee...
