Back to school vaccinations: What you need to know

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Chances are you will need to talk to your doctor before your child walks back into the classroom.

Toledo News Now's Amanda St. Hilaire was at Promedica Flower Hospital on Your Morning to explain what parents need to know about getting children their vaccines.

Vaccines are needed for students in kindergarten, 7th grade, and during the college years. There are new requirements for 7th grade vaccinations. They include a tetanus, meningitis and hepatitis shots.

Redness and burning can be a normal reaction. If a rash develops or if children begin having breathing difficulties, parents should seek medical attention.

Parents should schedule an appointment two to four weeks in advance. If you are worried about vaccinations, then you should talk to your health care provider.

For more information, parents can contact Promedica Flower Hospital at 419-824-1444.
