Local organization gives new take on food pantries

WOOD COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Manypeople struggle to put food on the table for their family, especially duringthe summer when school is out and children can't get school lunches. Now alocal organization is providing a fresh take on food pantries.

FeedOur Families is working to make sure Wood County residents don't go hungry, butthey're also giving families the independence they need.

Theability to shop at the store for food is something most people take forgranted. Now families in need can ‘shop' for the food they want at the Feed OurFamilies pantry, instead of just being handed a random assortment.

Aselection of fresh vegetables and bread are donated from the Perrysburg Farmer'sMarket, but volunteers are giving away more than food.

"Whilea member of the family does the shopping in here, then there is books andpeople who help the children take home books, or read them while they're here,"said Ruth Alteneder, a volunteer.
