Join a block watch, help keep Toledo safe

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Toledo Police are looking for more partners to help keep neighborhoods safe.

Police say adding more block watch groups can help beat back crime and build community pride.

There are currently more than 130 block watch groups covering Toledo, but police say it's their goal to help more people start them in their communities in hopes of getting eyes, ears and helping hands in every single neighborhood in the city.

Sgt. Anita Madison is a familiar face to several block watch groups in the city. She's worked with them for more than a decade. She says as times and technology change, so has the concept of a block watch, and this gives more busy people flexibility to get involved.

"There's still a way that you can get involved in this program," Sgt. Madison said. "We want every single neighborhood to have some kind of link to block watch, and some kind of link to information about what's going on in their neighborhood."
