Perrysburg unveils plans for major riverfront park renovations

PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Perrysburg is unveiling their plans for renovating the riverfront to the public.

The $26 million project will be a complete overhaul of the riverfront, but that's not sitting well with some residents.

Ziplines, sledding hills, an archery range and bike trails are just some of the planned attractions at Orleans Park; a café and ice rink at Hood Park.

"I was really excited when I first heard about them," said Sarah Stevenson. "I think we have a beautiful riverfront and it would be nice to utilize it."

But some say the plan is too ambitious and needs to be scaled back.

"We want to be able to go walk the riverfront and see and enjoy the riverfront, but we don't necessarily need it to be a theme park," said City Councilman Todd Grayson. "I think that's kind of the feel people have gotten, including myself, from the plans thus far."

Stevenson says while the proposed plans are grand, it would make Perrysburg a more desirable place to live.

"Maybe a little town like ours doesn't need so much," she said. "[However,] I think it would help property values stay up and a nice little town to attract people."

Time will tell if the plans turn into reality. The project would be funded by grants.
