Local group battles world hunger with ‘Stomp out Starvation’ campaign

(Toledo News Now) -

An estimated 925 million people are chronically hungry throughout the world. That's a huge number that one local organization is hoping to put a dent in.

Twelve local women are running a "Stomp out Starvation" campaign. The idea for the campaign came last year after the ladies helped pack 100,000 meals for the Feeding My Starving Children Foundation. They then decided to step that number up and shoot to pack one million meals.

It's called the Million Meals Alliance. Each meal costs only 22 cents, and the goal is to raise $22,000 with the help of nine churches.

They've been working for several months to raise money, and are currently getting prepared for a live and silent auction event in September. Organizers say most of the meals will be for children in Haiti.

"We feel there's a vision to reach the world in any way that we can," said Sandy Dulay, a member of the Stamp out Starvation team. "Certainly, world hunger is just a phenomenal thing, you know, if we can't make any difference."

The campaign ends in October. Click here to donate.
